LIFEFILES are creative exchanges.

Recordings of places, people, objects, moments in time, environments and quotidian events are shared with a range of artists working with sound. Those artists are then free to respond to the recordings in any way they like, either through manipulation or composition.

Season 01 of the LIFEFILES series commenced in March 2023 with contributions from Simon Fisher Turner, Veryan, Xqui, Rupert Lally, Andrew Spackman and Dave Clarkson.

Season 02 commenced in September 2023 with contributions so far from Audio Obscura, Todeskino, boycalledcrow and Simon Fisher Turner.

All source recordings were made at IKLECTIK, London (iklectik.org) and turned into three two-second loops:

IKLECTIK faces an existential fight to avoid eviction after the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Foundation decided not to renew IKLECTIK's lease, putting them at risk of eviction by the end of the year. This decision came quickly after Save Waterloo Paradise mobilised nearly 50,000 supporters and persuaded Michael Gove to rethink the development project. IKLECTIK's public stance against the controversial plans has resulted in this punitive action against both IKLECTIK and Old Paradise Yard.

IKLECTIK is an important, central, vital pillar of London's experimental music scene. Its closure would be an absolute travesty.

I already loved Fran's music, but he's now moved into the first division! Each of his releases is a jewel in a different way. Here he uses a combination of beautiful textures and melodies with beats. Normally, beats aren't my thing, but here the effect is very inspiring, not dissimilar to the best Helios work. This is life-affirming music that brightens your day. Allister Thompson
